The most important thing is the holder’s respect for the faith, wisdom or sacred power represented by the item. Always remind yourself of the symbolic meaning of the items.

When wearing or using it, one should maintain mindfulness and try to behave in accordance with the teachings or spirit represented by the item (for example, when wearing Buddhist prayer beads, reduce oral karma and evil deeds).

Avoid using it for improper purposes (such as showing off, gambling, deception, etc.).

Avoid unclean places and behaviors

Unclean places: When entering places such as toilets, bathrooms, slaughterhouses, and funeral parlors that are considered to have an unclean aura or heavy negative energy, it is best to remove them and store them properly (such as in a pocket or cloth bag). Some traditions are strictly prohibited from being brought in.

Indecent behavior: Avoid wearing or using it during sexual intercourse, quarrels, or immoral activities.

Blood and filth: Try to avoid contact with blood, body fluids, etc.

Properly store and keep

High and clean place: When not in use, it should be placed in a clean, quiet and high place (such as a Buddha niche, an offering table, the upper layer of a bookshelf, or a dedicated box), and avoid being directly placed on the ground, bedside, a pile of miscellaneous items, a chair or sofa where it may be sat on and pressed by people.

Special containers: Soft cloth bags, brocade bags or wooden boxes can be used for separate storage. Avoid mixing with other sundries, especially sharp metal objects or dirty things.

Avoid random display: If it is not necessary, do not display or play with it casually, especially avoid being touched or commented on by unbelievers or disrespectful people at will. Do not lend it to others to wear or play with at will, unless there is a special reason and the other party is also respectful.

Physical contact and cleaning:

Keep your body clean: Try to keep your hands clean before touching or wearing the blessing items.

If touched by disrespectful or unclean people (such as those who have just come into contact with filth or have extreme emotions), or if one feels contaminated with negative energy, appropriate purification can be carried out based on the material of the item (see the maintenance section below).

Damage handling: If an item is accidentally dropped or damaged, there is no need to panic excessively. This might be a symbol that shields you from disasters. One should handle the damaged items with gratitude and respect.

Do not discard it at will, especially not in the trash can.

Not superstitious, focus on the essence: Blessings are tools to assist in cultivating the mind, remind of mindfulness, and enhance faith. The essence lies in one’s own practice and good thoughts. Do not overly rely on or blindly believe in its “divine power”, thinking that wearing it will solve all problems.

A normal heart: Take gains and losses as they come. If lost, there’s no need to be overly obsessed or panicked. Keep a calm mind.

Physical cleaning (operate with caution based on the material) :

Principle: Gentle, clean, and avoid chemical agents.

Wood/seed type (such as prayer beads) :

Just gently wipe the stains with a clean, soft and slightly damp cloth. Avoid soaking or washing with water to prevent cracking and deformation.

Occasionally, it can be played with with clean hands or a soft cloth, which helps to form a natural patina (luster).

Avoid direct sunlight, high-temperature baking and long-term damp environments.

Metal items (such as pendants, ritual implements) :

Dust can be removed with a soft cloth or a soft brush.

For oxidation, a dedicated metal wipe cloth or a very small amount of dedicated cleaner can be used (test first in an inconspicuous area). After quick cleaning, be sure to dry thoroughly. Avoid strong acids and alkalis.

Jade/crystal category

It can be rinsed with clean water (unless there are special contraindications or the structure is loose), and dried with a soft cloth.

Avoid collisions with hard objects.

Some crystals can be purified by sun exposure or moonlight (see below), but note that colored crystals (such as amethyst and rose quartz) may fade if exposed to the sun for a long time.

Fabric/paper items (such as talismans, Thangka) :

Extremely cautious! Avoid washing with water or wiping with a damp cloth. Mainly use a soft-bristled brush or the cold setting of a hair dryer to gently brush off the dust.

Avoid direct sunlight to prevent fading.

When storing, pay attention to moisture-proofing, most-proofing and creasing. It is best to frame or put it in a protective bag/box.

General: Regardless of the material, maintain a respectful attitude when cleaning. It is best to do it in a quiet and clean environment.

Energy purification (very important)

Regular purification helps to eliminate accumulated negative energy and restore its pure magnetic field. Common methods (choosing a way that suits the material of the item and one’s own beliefs) :

Natural light purification

Sunlight: 1-2 hours of gentle sunlight in the early morning or evening (avoid the midday sun, especially for colored crystals, wood, and fabric). Note: Some religions have taboos regarding specific sacred objects (such as Buddha statues) being exposed to sunlight.

Moonlight: Placing it for one night on a full moon or a night with bright moonlight is especially suitable for crystals and jade, as the energy is relatively gentle.

Smoke purification (Holy Smoke/Incense) :

Use with caution! It is suitable for items that are not afraid of moisture and have a dense structure (such as some crystals and jade). It can be buried in dry sea salt for several hours, or gently wiped with sea salt water and then thoroughly dried immediately. Absolutely avoid soaking! Not suitable for metals (prone to corrosion), woods (prone to absorbing water and cracking), fabrics, and items with knots.

Chanting/Praying

The most fundamental way of purification. With a respectful heart, recite the sacred names, mantras or scriptures related to the item (such as the Six-syllable Great Mantra, the Great Compassion Mantra, the Heart Sutra, Bible scriptures, etc.), or pray sincerely. Purify items through one’s own positive energy field.

Soil burial method

It is suitable for small items that are not easily damaged. Wrap it in natural fabric and bury it in clean soil (such as a garden) for several days to allow Mother Earth to absorb negative energy. Make sure the location is safe and remember the position. After removal, the surface dirt needs to be cleaned.

Energy charging

After purification or when you feel your energy has weakened, you can recharge.

Sunlight/Moonlight Bath: The same as purification, but the mind is focused on absorbing energy.

Crystal cluster/Hole: It also has the effect of charging.
